Avoid being scammed: How to audit your technology development agency
The market is full of "freelancers" who disappear mid-project and agencies that sell recycled templates as if they were gold. Entrusting your company's digital core to the wrong hands can result in lawsuits for intellectual property theft, massive data loss, or inoperable systems. Choose your technology partner as you would choose a business partner.
Inflexible filters before signing a contract
- The Portfolio Test: Do not accept screenshots. Demand links to the systems or apps they have created, try them yourself on your cell phone. If the agency's portfolio is slow, so will your project.
- Technology Stack Transparency: Ask what language they will program in (Node, Python, React, Next.js) and demand that the source code belongs to you. If an agency insists on tying you to their servers or using closed platforms, run.
- Agile Work Methodology: Modern software development is not a blind contract where you see the result in 6 months. Demand "Agile/Scrum" methodologies, where the agency shows you functional progress (Sprints) every 15 or 20 days.
- SLA and Post-Launch Support: Software is never "finished", it will always require maintenance, security updates and fixes. Verify that the agency offers formal support plans with guaranteed response times.
